Northern Forest Heritage Park
This park is located on Route 16 in Berlin and was constructed by
local log builder, Tom Bembridge. It is a re-creation of the logging camps which for years were integral to the economics
of the Umbagog Area. The park hosts several events throughout the year and provides guided pontoon boats rides on the
Androscoggin River.
Rangeley Lakes Region - Rangeley, Maine
This scenic and recreational area offers the outdoor
enthusiast plenty of opportunities. There is fishing, swimming, boating, and plentiful fall and winter fun as well. Take
Route 16 north to Wilsons Mills, Maine and follow the signs to Rangeley, and Mooselookmeguntic Lakes. One particularly
pretty spot is Haines Landing on Mooselookmeguntic Lake. At the intersection of Route 16 and Route 4 take a left toward
Oquossoc and continue on Route 4 to the Landing.
The town of Rangeley is also very quaint and offers year round dining and lodging. There is an information booth in town
which will provide you with anything you might need to know about the area. Visit them on the road to the town boat
launch ramp.
Grafton Notch State Park - Grafton, Maine
Travelling east from Errol on Route 26, this park
includes a section of the Appalachian Trail as well as several beautiful wayside spots, gorges, picnic and hiking areas.
Here are many splendid views throughout the seven mile stretch of Route 26 heading toward Newry, Maine. This is a great
day trip for any nature lover.

Rapid River
Since the early 1900's, Western Maine's Rapid River has attracted the serious trout
and salmon fisherman from all over the country- It's legendary 10 lb. trout and salmon has made the fly fisherman dream of
catching these legends. Although these huge fish are pretty much a thing of the past, it is not uncommon to catch fish
in the 5 to 7 lb. range. To further add to its fame, the Rapid River was the focus of Maine author Louise Dickinson Rich,
whose national best seller, "We Took To The Woods", written in 1942 at Forest Lodge on the Rapid, described life on the
river and the surrounding Rangeley Lakes area.
Although the area has changed, the Rapid River still flows much the same as those days long ago. Instead of log drives
on the river, white water rafters and kayakers negotiate the many pools and rapids, on its run from Richardson Lake to
Umbagog Lake, sharing its beauty with fishermen, who flock to the river in the hope that maybe, there are still a few
10 pounders lurking in those pools.
Nansen Ski Jump
This steel framed 170' ski jump was constructed in 1936 on Route 16 just north
of Berlin and used for Olympic Tryouts. Although no longer in use it is a site to behold. Picnicking, fishing and a boat
launch are available at a wayside area across from the ski jump.
